I just heard on the news that the ECB may raise interest rates when they meet next month. I sounds mad as Europe is definitely heading into a recession.

Well, according to Bank of Ireland’s chief economist, Dr Dan McLaughlin - the ECB will cut rates to 3.5% in 2008. Its hard to say exactly when, but some ECB council members have lately voiced concern about the outlook for growth and the need for the ECB. As soon as inflation shows signs of dropping, I suspect they will cut rate to prevent Europe from going into recession.
